For all intents and purposes this blog is about music, plain and simple.  From time to time I’ll acknowledge other areas of culture, but in my capacity as both a practising musician and a postgraduate music scholar (and aspirant academic, in my more grandiose moments) it is in the field of music, in all its myriad forms, that my expertise lies.  It’s admittedly rather self-aggrandising and vainglorious of me to foist my opinions on you, the unsuspecting public, but I spend a lot of time listening to music (far more time than is healthy, if I’m honest) and like to think it’s an area in which I can talk with some authority.  It also seems that a fair few people think my opinion matters enough that they actively seek my judgement on their music, and so I’m lucky enough to have quite a few records thrust in my direction for my perusal (if you fancy seeing yourself amongst this esteemed clique of fantastic musicians then I shall direct you to my submission guidelines on the contact page).

When I’m not scribbling my thoughts down in these hallowed pages, I divide my time between a veritable cornucopia of musical endeavours.  I host a radio show, I Sing the Body Eclectic, as well as writing for various other internet and print concerns.  I also perform in a band called Eaten by Monsters (hence the blog’s title – good names are hard to come by) and you can find everything you’d ever want to know (and just a little bit more) here, which is not only the band’s website, but also the website for my entire label. That’s right, boys and girls, this cool cat’s a high-flying executive in the world’s smallest no-budget indie label, Bearfaced Records.
